Festival season is undoubtedly the happiest time of the year. From SXSW to Coachella, people flock from around the world to celebrate the coming of warm seasons and surround themselves with great people.
Not only have these festivals proven to blissfully ring in Spring and Summer, they have quickly become a hub for the latest trends. Magazines and bloggers alike turn to these festivals every single year to spot the latest trends and the people starting them.
Here are the top four trends we will be watching for at Coachella this year.
- Braids/ Hair Tattoos
Braids are nothing new to festivals, but with the influx of 70’s fashion in last month’s fashion weeks, we are expecting to see a lot more of them. As we pay homage to the fishtails of the past, we see braided crowns and metallic clip-ins in our festival future. Take a look at Urban Outfitters latest Metallic Hair Tattoo sets. They’re giving us geometric 70’s vibes with a shiny twist. This is no surprise to us after the glitter spells sent down almost every runway this past September.
- Geometric Prints
Prints are hot right now. Everywhere you turn, someone is pushing a printed dress, jumpsuit, shirt, etc. The “groovy” side of this is the head-to-toe geometric prints we’re all pulling from the 70’s. H&M’s newest Coachella collection featured geometric printed jumpsuits and rompers in its look book. These pieces were covered in deep colors and totally gave us retro vibes. We’re into it.
Let’s be honest – It’s not like denim is ever going anywhere. So what does that mean for today’s trends? Distressed denim! Look out for acid washed denim jackets with distressed details and lots of high-waisted distressed shorts. Style icon Alexa Chung has always been spotted in some sort of denim when she ventures out to her favorite festivals. We’re thinking the same thing will happen this year with more of an updated twist.
- Virtual Reality
Didn’t see this one coming? Coachella will be available to everyone who has access to a VR headset this year. The festival announced last week on its website that it would partnering with Vantage.tv, a company that specializes in creating VR content, to give a complete virtual reality experience live from the stages of Coachella. And don’t be so quick to think that this is something out-of-reach for everyday people. Google is selling their “Cardboard” VR headset for $15 right now. That’s way cheaper than a ticket to Coachella.
