The semester after I graduated from college I did an internship at Seventeen Magazine.
It’s important to note, that before being an intern I did not have any previous connections to Seventeen Magazine.
My internship experience was in the fashion closet but there are also other departments you can intern in such as beauty, editorial, marketing etc.
I recently posted an episode on Beyond the Glam podcast detailing my internship experience. I go over my application process, how the interview went, where I found housing, and how I funded my internship experience. I also provide tips on how to find fashion internships and where to look.
This was an unpaid fashion internship and I also had to cover the entire cost of the internship out of pocket but I go more into depth in the episode.
My biggest piece of advice when it comes to interning at fashion magazines is to have one goal you want to accomplish by the time that you leave. Make sure that you have a game plan.
For example, grab the description of a job opportunity that catches your attention. In your internship, make sure that you use that as a checklist and part of your game plan.
I also had the opportunity to interview Lizbeth Hernandez, a digital content creator who did an internship at Vogue Magazine. In the podcast episode, she briefly talks about her experience and how she met someone who helped her get her foot in the door.
