Daily routine of a journalist during COVID-19

There is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now and every single career is being impact by the pandemic. I can only speak on what it’s like to be a journalist and right now I am trying to take it day by day. If this is the first time on my blog, I am the social media producer at a TV news station. I’ve been working in the news industry for the past six years– and I love what I do! My job is to take what runs on the daily newscast and find different ways to share it on social media.

Every week I go through a rollercoaster of emotions, but I think the first week that I was sent to work from home. I kept seeing posts from people that I personally know talk really negatively about the news. It hurt because they have no idea what journalists do on the daily.

A lot of people assume that we just take information out of thin air or something. They think that we just give our opinion on what is going on. But that’s not how it works– we could get into a lot of trouble for giving our opinion and not attributing to a legitimate source.

But I realized, after listening to Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘Red Table Talk Show’ that by trying to educate others about what journalists do and don’t do was wasting my energy.

If there are any journalists reading this, since we can’t really unplug from the news– instead, spend your time watching funny shows or turning off your phone after you’re done with work.

Since I spend a lot of time at home on my computer as soon as I’m done with work related tasks, I start going on a cleaning sprees.
